Are there certain subgenres of rap that get more respect than others?

Conscious rap is the most respected genre since it's considered "real" hip hop and often cited when people say they like hip hop, but that's like saying heavy metal isn't "real" rock music since it doesn't deal with social themes. And anyways saying conscious rap is "real" hip hop is nonsense since it actually came after gangsta rap became popular.
