What are the differences between these two english sentences ( as far as meaning is concerned )?

If there are any differences, it would be in the second part of the sentence. The clause (second part) in sentence (1) is in the past tense while in sentence (2), in the progressive. The main clause is in the present perfect tense. There is hardly any difference, except in grammatical tense.
