96 Pontiac Firebird 3.8 little to no pickup?

Here's the deal. In park I can floor it and the RPM's jump up just fine. It's when in drive that it has little pick up. It will get up in speed as long as there is no hills cause if I do come across a hill even with the pedal to the floor. My speed will decrease. Any thoughts to this.
