Did the Switched at Birth true story happen in Mission hills Kansas?

They talk about living in Kansas City, and the house is in the misson hills area, and its based off a true story, so I was wondering if the true story took place in the same area? seems like a kinda weird and unknown place to make a tv series, i mean mission hills is a real place, but its unknown around the rest of the country???
