Is this marital life normal?

its not even a year of marriage, me n my husband have had innumerable fights.. our first fight was the very next day of marriage. He is very nice guy, caring, gets me all i need etc.. but the problem starts once i tend to do what i really want to do.. he tries to control me in everythin... if everything happens as the way he wants, he is happy. Also he doesn't understand me, he always finds some reason in whatever i do.. am really tired trying to fix things... Also i am not working as of now since i am preparing for my masters, so finance has been all his responsibility. I just want to know if this is normal or are we being incompatible??
